I was starting to think the reviews on yelp must have been paid or friends or something with everyone talking about the fried chicken, but it really is that good! It was incredibly moist with the most perfect crunchy seasoned skin. My side salad, while nothing more than iceberg, tomatoes, and shredded cheese, was nice and cold and good blue cheese dressing. My fiancé had the country fried steak and said it was good, but he prefers white gravy instead of brown. He also enjoyed the green beans (but they were typical overlooked with bacon diner style). We dashed in close to closing, but the staff was very nice and the place is cute.

The BEST fried chicken I've ever had! Anywhere! Small place in a small town but fried chicken is perfect! Not greasy, juicy inside, made fresh!

BEST fried chicken, ever! Crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, never oily or greasy. Whoever is in the kitchen knows how to handle the fryer. Even their fried mullet and catfish comes out crispy and moist inside. Large variety of well seasoned sides to choose from to accompany your order. I hated grits my entire life, which is many, many decades of hate until I tried Alice's grits, now I am a huge fan of grits. Feels like you walked into a time capsule when you first step inside Alice's but then you realize why it's been around for so long...it is good southern cooking!

BEST Fried chicken EVER! Better yet,... Warm, welcoming and friendly owner and staff. Clean as a whistle, fun country decor, great service and delicious sides (sweet potato soufflés, collard greens and pineapple cake!!!!!)Nice cozy building , welcoming neighborhood spot! They even have a rooster clock the crows !.... Other guests were welcoming when they learned I had recently moved into the area. Offered tips and resources. " hometown Dining at its BEST! I can't wait to check out tomorrow's breakfast!!!!! Thanks Lauren!.....

A four bumped up to 5 because it doesn't have to be this good- but it is. Whoever they have cranking out the recipes back there knows their stuff. Fried chicken was straight up some of the best I've ever had. Juicy, fresh, not greasy. Wife's breakfast was solid and eggs cooked perfectly. Collared greens were on point- and they have the vinegar on the table so you can go a little crazy. It's like eating at Grandma's house- unless your Grandma is dead- in which case- you should probably stop hanging out at your Grandma's house. She's dead bro.

The marquee sign lured us in with the siren song, "Fried Oysters". We rarely go there due to their limited hours, but got ourselves together in time for their dinner hours. This review is mixed to say the least, because some elements of the meal were fantastic, but others rather disappointing. The first thing we noticed is that we were clearly not welcome by the staff. The second thing is that the dining room is quite small so no conversation is private. The Food: -Oysters were rubbery and not well breaded. -The cheese grits were utterly sublime! Creamy, cheesy, and absolutely perfect. -Mac & Cheese was delicious. -Mustard greens were overlooked. -The cornbread, however, was a work of art! The oyster dinner was reasonably priced ($13.99) and included a small piece of homemade sheet cake. All in all, though, I don't think we will go back.

Overall, a good hearty breakfast, but the place is a bit run down and the condiment containers were sticky. Service is friendly and reasonably quick. I ordered the bacon & cheese omelette. I received a large, folded over rectangle of an omelet with a excellent portion of bacon on the inside. However, I should have expected they'd use American cheese (not my favorite). That said, breakfast hit the spot after the long drive. If you're looking for a hearty, reasonably-priced breakfast off I-75 and you don't mind the run down building, try Alice's.

I've only eaten here for breakfast so can't comment on their lunch menu. This is a great cheap place to stop in for a big homemade breakfast. The top items we like are: - Oatmeal - Eggs with home fries - French toast The service is friendly and this is the place all the locals go for breakfast so from that you know it has got to be good! If you are in a hurry though they are a little slow when they are busy, but not too slow.

Only had breakfast so here's my initial views Atmosphere: Small, friendly but could use an update although it does add to the overall small town diner feel. Service: friendly, fast and attentive Food: good breakfast. Pancakes were fluffy and very tasty. Sausage about what you would expect for patty style. Eggs were cooked to perfection and the biscuits with sausage gravy were very good. Coffee, hot strong and fresh. Hot chocolate was powder mix so a bit lacking there. (only because first review would improve if more to compare consistency). Overall: if you are in the area give them a try. Food good, service friendly/fast, prices very reasonable.

My favorite restaurant. The fried chicken is wonderful. I suppose the other items listed on the board are too, but I have never been able to pass up the chicken to find out. Vegetables are southern cooking staples and the prices are low. I took a friend with me since he's from South Carolina and loves southern cooking. It was almost necessary to roll him out of there. He loved every dish and could not get over that the food was like his grandmother made for him so many years ago.

Pretty good local place. Definitely a locals place. Good was filling and biscuits were the best. Wish they used cheddar vice American on the omelette I had. The special was two eggs grits bacon and a biscuit for 3.75. Grits passed the wife test so they must be REALLY good.

Of the 3 places I ate in high springs this was my favorite. It has the feel of a real old style country cafe. Its inexpensive and authentic. There was a fried mullet special. I didn't even know that was a thing. It, along with the catfish, had a nice light cornmeal breading. They also had a good selection of sides, including swamp cabbage. Didn't make it for bfast, but if I had time I would give it a try.

I really don't know how I'd overlooked this gem for so very long: I only stopped there today because my friend whom I was going to the springs with suggested it. Alice's Parkside is a typical Southern cookin' restaurant with a down-home atmosphere, large portions, fair prices, and loyal locals. The dining room is quite small but comfy if somewhat worn (they've been here over fifteen years, our waitress said). They have a printed menu with their standard breakfast, lunch and dinner selections, but also write daily specials up on a dry-erase board by the front. Today's specials included chicken n' dumplings, chicken-fried pork chop, and fried chicken although I think they always have fried chicken. Most dishes come with two or three sides. I had the catfish sandwich (see my photo) which was honestly a huge piece of catfish on a tiny piece of bread, served with cole slaw and normally would have come with French fries but I substituted in hush puppies. The hush puppies were not the best I've had--too much onion and, oddly, red (sweet) peppers in them--but the fish was great as was the cole slaw. And if this is a sandwich, the "catfish platter" on the menu I suspect is the size of an aircraft carrier. You won't go hungry here, that's for sure. The lunch crowd seems mainly to be locals--mostly older folks--who talk politics, medical woes, and about the rising cost of large-animal veterinary care over lunch. The breakfasts are apparently also local favorites. For simple, down-home, cooking this is pretty good stuff.

I love this place! We go to this area about once a year to visit relatives. Sometimes Alice's is our first stop out of the airport even before we visit relatives or check into our hotel in Lake City. The food is old time good southern farm country food: catfish, grits, okra, butter beans, collard greens, fried chicken and so on. They have other food (burgers, salads, etc.) for those that do not appreciate real farm country food. Most of the customers are local people. The servers are nice, friendly and efficient. This is not a fancy restaurant but It has great charm and authenticity, I love this place!

This place is cheap but you get what you pay for. The service is slow, orders were wrong and the waitresses are rude. Skip this dive.

A great home cooked meal that I don't have to cook at home! My son and I have driven past this place a million times. We finally stopped in today and I am glad we did. Service is friendly, food is great, portions are plentiful and prices a good. We will definitely be back.
